At Barney’s Sweet Shop we are always going to be champions for building a bigger table and making room for our friends to shine! In that spirit, we are proud to announce we are hiring for our first cohort of the Barney’s Sweet Success Internship Program under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist. We are seeking three individuals to be a part of this inclusive initiative.

Duration: 12 weeks (4-6 hours per week) May 1, 2023 - August 31, 2023

Compensation: $15 per hour

Ideal Candidates:

• Age Range: 16-22 years old

• Disability Level: Mild to moderate intellectual disabilities

• Transportation: Must have available transportation to and from the internship location in Ashland City & Greater Nashville Area

• Desired Skills:

o Able to follow 2-3 step directions

o Capable of walking up and down stairs, navigating uneven surfaces

o Able to lift up to 25 lbs

o Independent in toileting hygiene

Intern Responsibilities:

• Kitchen Safety & Recipe Perfection: Build basic kitchen hygiene & safety skills. Follow our family’s secret recipes to prepare delectable popcorn & brittle sweets.

• Assembly Expertise: Contribute to the assembly of our popcorn products, ensuring quality and consistency.

• Farmer’s Market Magic: Build essential social skills by interacting with customers, creating positive and memorable experiences. Assist in the setup and breakdown at local farmer's markets.

• Money Management: Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system with confidence, honing technical skills in a supportive environment. Learn the ropes of handling monetary transactions with guidance and support.

• Order Fulfillment: Be part of the packaging and fulfillment process, ensuring each order meets our quality standards.

This internship program is designed to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where individuals with disabilities can thrive. Our goal is to equip our interns with the skills needed to gain employment in the food preparation industry.
